Review of the Xbox Partner Preview

Xbox Partner Preview showcased some exciting new games that are coming this year and next. Games showcased were:

  1. Dragon: Infinite Wealth
  2. Ikaro Will Not Die
  3.  Still Wakes The Deep
  4.  RoboCop: Rogue City
  5. Dungeons Of Hinterberg
  6. Spirit of the North 2
  7. Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater
  8. Manor Lords
  9. The Finals Beta Announcement
  10. Ark: Survival Ascended
  11.  Alan Wake 2
I want to look at the three games I am most excited about as I feel I won't do the others any justice: Ark: Survival Ascended, Manor Lords, and Dungeons Of Hinterberg.

Ark Survival Evolved has been long awaited with a very weird launch. Promises made and broken and mass confusion on pretty much everything. This was the first time we EVER saw gameplay with the new graphics and then they decide to release it the same day! Very strange. If you are not familiar with this game, it is the most played survival game and has been for 8years! The main reason: dinosaurs. Yes that;s right, dinosaurs. You can tame, breed, ride, and equip armor and lasers to your favorite childhood dino, if you can survive that is. It was originally Ark: Survival Evolved, then, they shut down the official servers(you can still play solo) and moved it over to Unreal Engine 5. The graphics are beautiful, but still needs optimization. I will review this game in particular in more depth when I have more hours logged in.

Manor Lords is another game that has been on many people's Wishlist for a long time. The release date for the game has been constantly pushed back for further work. At first, this might look bad, but after seeing the review and gameplay, I am personally very happy to wait. Too many games have come out in the past decade that needed more time in the oven. You can tell the developers have put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in this game and really care for it. This game is mostly a city builder, but has mixed in MANY different strategy concepts into it. The diplomacy looks great, the building looks polished, and the battles look like a Total War game! I can't wait to play it! It comes out on April 26, 2024.

Dungeons of Hinterberg is a new game for me. What really caught my eye is the art style. It definitely will be a hit or miss for people, especially in an age where unreal 5 is making games look life like. I think this game has some charm from the artstyle. It looks like a rpg game with adventure and battle to casually play. I hope it gets multiplayer! It comes out sometime in 2024.

RTS Game Theory/Guide Part 2: Resource Management

RTS Game Theory/Guide: Resource Management This is a deeper look at how to manage resources, but because this game theory/guide is for all RTS games, it won’t be a deep dive into any one game specifically. I recommend doing some research on your own for specifics. As previously mentioned, resources are the supply for the demand(military). Having a great economy will field a great army. Let's break this down into separate categories: Resource Types:   Most RTS games feature multiple types of resources, such as minerals, energy, food, gold, or wood. Understanding the different types and their uses is crucial. Buildings, units, and research all have specific costs of one or multiple of these resources. Depending on what you want to build, you need to allocate your workers to collect that resource. For example, if you need to train an army consisting of high cost gold units, you will need to collect more gold than the other resources. This may include assigning newly trained wor...

RTS Game Theory/Guide: Military Part 3

RTS Game Theory/Guide: Military This is a deeper look at how to manage your military. Once again, keep in mind that units and fighting systems(like the rock-paper-scissors mentioned above) vary between games. These are some tactics that can apply to all RTS that will help you get those W’s.  Controls: Hotkeys are necessary for moving your army around and even training units. Find the hot keys of the buildings in the controls menu. You can also set your own hotkeys. This will allow you to train units very quickly instead of mousing over each and every military building. It is also useful to group the same units to specific hotkeys. For example, group all archers together under “1”, and all horsemen under “2”. It will be easier to maneuver in a tactful way. Another helpful tip is that you can divide the map into quadrants and assign your army to that quadrant so you can easily keep track of where they are. Ex Quadrant 1 is near the top of the map, Quadrant 2 is close to the ce...
