Review of the Xbox Partner Preview

Xbox Partner Preview showcased some exciting new games that are coming this year and next. Games showcased were: Dragon: Infinite Wealth Ikaro Will Not Die  Still Wakes The Deep  RoboCop: Rogue City Dungeons Of Hinterberg Spirit of the North 2 Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater Manor Lords The Finals Beta Announcement Ark: Survival Ascended  Alan Wake 2 I want to look at the three games I am most excited about as I feel I won't do the others any justice: Ark: Survival Ascended, Manor Lords, and Dungeons Of Hinterberg. Ark Survival Evolved has been long awaited with a very weird launch. Promises made and broken and mass confusion on pretty much everything. This was the first time we EVER saw gameplay with the new graphics and then they decide to release it the same day! Very strange. If you are not familiar with this game, it is the most played survival game and has been for 8years! The main reason: dinosaurs. Yes that;s right, dinosaurs. You can tame, breed, ride, and...

Ark: Survival Ascended GAMEPLAY?!?

We have all been waiting for it and now it is finally coming to pass! On Twitter, Ark: Survival Ascended announced we will FINALLY be getting some gameplay of the game. It has been a very weird launch process from Studio Wildcard. From false claims and promises, mixed and unmixed bundles, to outright confusion on what is happening. Is it going to be on Steam? Where is the "coming soon" which you are required by Steam to have two weeks before launch? Is it coming out at the end of this month? We are given assurance that it is on schedule to do so. Let's hope that it does! I am definitely excited to see dinosaurs in Unreal Engine 5! Check out the gameplay at  https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2023/10/23/xbox-partner-preview-announce/?ocid=Event_soc_omc_xbo_tw_Photo_lrn_10.23.1  1pm EST tomorrow! I suggest going on YouTube, as that is the only way to watch in 4k.                           Photo Taken from their webs...

Great Deals on GREAT GAMES?

I always keep an eye on Humble Bundle. Not only does it have great deals every so often, it also supports charity! I have enjoyed many games, books, and software from these bundles. As a gamer, a website that has great bundles across different gaming fields is a huge boon. Here are the top four bundles I am most excited about.  Sid Meier's Ultimate Collection Bundle: This bundle includes Civilization 3-6 and Beyond Earth with many DLCs. For any 4X fan, Civilization 5 and 6 are amazing games that have really been the bar for other games. Another 4X games, how does this compare to Civ 6? You will see this in many reviews for other 4X games on Steam. This is for good reason. Civilization 6 has a lot of enjoyable content with different civilizations to play, good depth in gameplay and research/diplomacy aspects that keeps players coming back to Civilization games again and again.  Another game I want to mention in this bundle is Sid Meier's Pirates. This is an old school game that...

RTS Game Theory/Guide Part 2: Resource Management

RTS Game Theory/Guide: Resource Management This is a deeper look at how to manage resources, but because this game theory/guide is for all RTS games, it won’t be a deep dive into any one game specifically. I recommend doing some research on your own for specifics. As previously mentioned, resources are the supply for the demand(military). Having a great economy will field a great army. Let's break this down into separate categories: Resource Types:   Most RTS games feature multiple types of resources, such as minerals, energy, food, gold, or wood. Understanding the different types and their uses is crucial. Buildings, units, and research all have specific costs of one or multiple of these resources. Depending on what you want to build, you need to allocate your workers to collect that resource. For example, if you need to train an army consisting of high cost gold units, you will need to collect more gold than the other resources. This may include assigning newly trained wor...

RTS Game Theory/Guide Part 1

RTS Game Theory: Multitasking Real Time Strategy games get their appeal from, well, the real time tactics. The thrill and suspense of split-decision making and constant action as you face off against the AI or other players make real time strategy games different from the other strategy games in the genre; it adds a whole other level of complexity in of itself. In this RTS Game Theory section, we are going to look at Multitasking . You may have tried an RTS for the first time and as you were learning the ropes for what building is what, you get attacked with a large force from an enemy. You go to move your army and…wait…you have one soldier just standing idly to face the threat. You were so focused on the economy, you forgot about your military. We have all been there. This frustration of everything going on at once can easily lead to frustration and quitting RTS games all together. Let’s break it down to an organized, manageable problem. The most common way to manage multitaskin...

What's The Best RTS For Me?

Choosing The Right RTS For You There are many RTS games out there, spanning from the early 1990s to now. Each one has its own gems and flaws, player base, and charm. So the question is, “Which one is right for me?” We will look at different categories on how to choose a good RTS that you will enjoy including: Release Dates, Setting, Difficulty, and Player Base. Release Dates: Are you looking for a good nostalgic game or high end graphics? There are many good RTS games from the 1990s and early 2000s, but you have to get over the clunky controls and “poor” graphics. Don’t ignore old games simply because of their age; there are some really good ones! Personally, my favorite old RTS is Tzar .  Setting: There are many different settings to RTS games. From history, science fiction, fantasy, and more. The question you should ask yourself is, “Which genre do I like the best?” Do you want to relive history and conquer civilizations? Do you want to face off against aliens in an unknow...

A NEW ERA For The RTS Genre?

The RTS(Real Time Strategy) genre had a great era in the 1990s. Warcraft came out in Nov 15, 1994, Command and Conquer in Sept. 26, 1995, and Age of Empires in Oct 13, 1997, StarCraft in March 31, 1998 and so many, many more games that many of us would be familiar with from our childhood or because these titles have continued on. This carried on into the early 2000s and then, the craze petered out. Games came and went, some making splashes, and others just not making the cut. Another mini craze came with Starcraft II coming out in July 27, 2010 with publishers trying again to rekindle the flame. The Heart of The Swarm expansion came out in March 12, 2013 and Starcraft 2 has continued to thrive since then.  Recently, Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games have experienced a resurgence in recent years, with both classic franchises and new titles entering the scene. Age of Empires 4 came out in Oct 28, 2021 and created a huge interest in the traditional RTS again. The newly create...

Playing Lorcana For FREE?

Disney's competitor to Magic: The Gathering has been out for a little while now, with the second set just coming out. For Disney fans, this a dream come true. For others, it has great nostalgic value as their childhood heroes come to life. The problem is, it's getting increasingly expensive very quickly.  Lorcana starter decks ranged from $18-25. Now they are $30+. This is a very quick price increase and for many in this economic state, this is too much to get into a new or perhaps another card game. Thankfully, there are those heroes out there who are making sites to play Lorcana for free and I will show you how to do this.  There are two sites we need to go to. Both require a sign up, just as a heads up. The first one is called DreamBorn.ink ( https://dreamborn.ink/builder ). This is where you can look at all the cards and create decks with similar stats to MTG websites (cost curve, card colors, etc). You can create your own decks here and also look at decks other peop...

Video Games

I have always been into strategy games. The critical thinking, the self-improvement, the competition. In this blog I will primarily focus on Strategy games; providing guides, favorites, reviews, and news. However, there are a few random games I like to play outside of the Strategy genre that I will share with you all. Want to get into Strategy Games? Here are the biggest categories in the genre: 1. Real-Time Strategy (RTS): Players manage resources, build bases, and control armies in real-time. They make decisions on the fly and need to adapt to changing situations. Examples: StarCraft, Age of Empires, Warcraft series. 2. Turn-Based Strategy (TBS): Turn Based strategic decisions, which can include movement, combat, and resource management. Examples: Civilization series, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Heroes of Might and Magic. 3. 4X Games: Stands for "eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate." Players build and manage civilizations, explore new territories, manage resources, engage...
